RUST Kick Command, Hints and Tips

RUST Kick Command

The RUST kick command

The RUST kick command is used to forcibly remove players with active connections to a RUST server. This command is used primarily for server administration and moderation. When a player is kicked from a RUST server, it also opens up a player slot for that server, allowing for a new connection to occur.

When a player is kicked from a RUST server, if the kick contained the optional message, the player will be able to see that message on the server’s description dialog. This is the screen the kicked player sees immediately after a successful kick. This is a great way to communicate the reason for the kick. Consider linking to the server’s website or rules posting if available.

A few practical reasons for using the RUST kick command:

  • Removing disruptive players, chat spammers, advertisers on the server and other rule violations
  • Freeing up player slots on a server
  • Removing idle players and admins taking up slots and bandwidth
  • Issuing warnings to players and driving the message across directly

Who can use the RUST kick command

The RUST kick command can be issued on vanilla RUST servers by RUST admins and moderators only.  Non-admin players on vanilla RUST servers cannot use the kick command. There are plugins available for modded servers that allow non-admin players the ability to majority vote other players off the server.

How to use the RUST kick command

Before initiating the RUST kick command:

  • The player to be kicked must be actively connected to the server, kicks do not prevent players from connecting.
  • Ensure the correct player name or Steam ID are being used
  • Kicking players by name will broadcast to the entire server.
  • Kicking players by SteamID will broadcast to the server, this is a different behavior from the RUST ban command.
  • Provide a reason for the kick. It will save you from future headaches, especially when people undoubtedly seek to appeal the kick. The server’s active players will also want to know what offense was committed.
  • If the player being kicked has white space(s) in their name, be sure to use quotations, otherwise it will kick the first player it matches on.

The RUST kick command can be issued from the in-game console  and RCON platforms. Press the F1 key to open the in-game console and type in the specific kick command syntax listed below, then press enter.
